SMO Team Member Wins GP Take Notice Award

We would like to congratulate Marlene Lash for being awarded the Georgia Pacific Take Notice Award.  Marlene was recognized at our monthly managers meeting and presented an award from Cindy Gitter and Andrea Berns of Georgia Pacific.  Marlene is SMO’s longest tenured team member and started with the company in 1995 when we were in our very first office on 4th Street.

At SMO, “‘Clean with Purpose” is more than a motto. It’s an attitude. SMO believes in serving with a determination and conviction that their work has real meaning and significance. So, when it came to nominating a standout employee for Take Notice recognition Paula Murphy knew exactly who exemplified that SMO attitude. Without hesitation, Paula decided to nominate Marlene who is a Site Supervisor and serves several SMO long term customers.  When asked why she nominated Marlene Paula said “Marlene is a ray of sunshine and has a great sense of humor.  She always brightens my evening if I have the pleasure of seeing her at the SMO office. She is positive and very reliable”.

Marlene volunteers at various food shelters and most recently volunteered on Thanksgiving Day to help fed 1,143 homeless people in Greensboro.  She has help feed Police and Fire Departments on holidays and supports various Missionaries at her Church where she is the “manager” of a youth Mime Group that travels, is the secretary for the Sunday school department, bus driver and trustee.  Marlene is also a diehard Dallas Cowboy fan!  When asked about receiving this award Marlene said “It makes me feel very special and I am thankful to Paula for nominating me.  It is truly and honor and a privilege”.

Seventy six percent of custodians report they’re less likely to look for another job when they’re acknowledged for their work. So that appreciation can help save facility managers money and time. We are very thankful to Georgia Pacific for recognizing Marlene for her service.
