This year's Thank Your Cleaner day (TYCD) will occur on October 16th. This is a day that has been set aside to provide recognition for those hard-working individuals that provide us with outstanding cleaning services. These are the individuals that work hard to ensure that our office spaces, schools, factories, etc. are clean and healthy. Without their hard work we would not enjoy the benefits of being able to work and learn within environments that are pleasant and inviting. October 16th gives us the opportunity to officially express our gratitude to those dedicated folks.
The Origins and Success of TYCD
TYCD was initiated in 2015. It originated in New Zealand as an initiative led by a local trade organization representing Building Service Contractors. That trade organization was able to successfully spread the word about TYCD and encourage widespread recognition and adoption. Over its short five-year history TYCD has gained recognition across the globe. Countries currently participating include:
- USA
- Argentina
- Australia
- Brazil
- Canada
- Chili
- Columbia
- Dominican Republic
- Ecuador
- Guyana
- Malaysia
- Mexico
- New Zealand
- Peru
- Singapore
- Spain
- Trinidad and Tobago
- United Kingdom
The above list of participating countries is testament to the phenomenal success of TYCD. Participating countries are using the day to help ensure that workers in the cleaning industry are getting the recognition they deserve.

Expressing Your Gratitude
What are some of the ways in which you can express your gratitude to your cleaning service providers? Here are a few suggestions:
- Express your appreciation through a small gift. Set up a lunch for your cleaning staff or set aside a few minutes during the day on the 16th for soft-drinks and snacks.
- Publicly thank your cleaners by posting a message on your social media sites. If possible, post a video to highlight your appreciation.
- If you are a BSC, make your clients aware of Thank Your Cleaner Day. Let them know what steps you will be taking internally to show appreciation to your cleaning operators.
- Print out and post the TYCD poster. Display the poster at a couple of high-visibility locations within your facility.
- Deliver notes of appreciation to all members of your cleaning staff.
- Reach out and deliver a personal "thank you". Few things demonstrate sincere appreciation more than a heart-felt "thank you".
Your cleaning service providers work hard, on a year-round basis, to provide you with a working environment that is clean and healthy. October 16 will be your opportunity to offer your sincere gratitude for the invaluable services that they provide.
