A big SMO congratulations to the 2019 J.D. Murphy Team Member of the Year, Pedro Rios, also known by his alter-ego Super Pedro! Pedro was recognized at our first ever SMO Facebook Live Event – where he received his plaque and $1,000 CASH award.
Super Pedro has been with the company since 2008, and he is a great example of SMO’s focus on promoting from within. He started as a Cleaning Technician and is now a Supervisor and in high demand for many projects at multiple job sites. Pedro is known as a “go to guy” for almost any job, always following through and exceeding expectations. He is a 3-time Team Member of the Year nominee, so we are extra happy that he has won this year!
Gary Collins, Vice President of Operations, said “I have had the privilege to work beside Pedro at different times and he is the kind of team member that just gets the job done. He does not need any direction or motivation; you just turn him loose. I do not know if he has ever said NO to a special request to help with something. We do not hand out super hero names very often, but it didn’t take long for Pedro to become Super Pedro!!!”
Shanda Everett, SMO’s Office Manager, nominated Pedro this year, and had this to say about him: “There is virtually nothing he wouldn’t do. Last year Pedro worked in 18 different jobs in addition to this one regular routine. His main account has been a changing job site and Pedro’s position changed from 3rd shift to a full-time day porter role. He adapted and excelled in this new role, as expected.”
Pedro currently works for two different managers, Steve and Eric, both of whom respect and appreciate him for his energy and work ethic. Steve stated that Pedro “has many impressive qualities, but the one that stands out the most is the smile and positive attitude with which he greets any and all tasks. He is always willing to help however he can!” Eric Shoffner said “P is for proficiency, E is for efficiency, D is for dependable, R is for reliable and O is for outstanding! Hands down, he's SUPER PEDRO!”
Every year it is a competitive field for Team Member of the Year. We always feel proud of and confident about the winner, and that is no different this year! Year after year Super Pedro continues to be a fantastic representative of SMO to customers and his peers, and we are so happy that he continues to be an integral part of the SMO Team!
